Community Participation

We aim to help and support people in building and working towards their goals by engaging all community and home areas.

AMS can support you to build a program of support that will support you to achieve your goals and promote your quality of life, such as:

  • involvement in decision making, daily planning, and budgeting

  • involvement and participation in the community

  • opportunities for learning and development

  • meal planning, cooking, and nutrition

  • daily living and personal care skills

  • learning to catch public transport

  • organizing and attending appointments

  • good communication with families, friends, and circles of support.

Why is community participation meaningful?

The Productivity Commission report said that addressing the relatively lower levels of community participation and inclusion for people with disabilities will have substantial benefits.

The Productivity Commission reported:

  • It can lead to improved wellbeing outcomes for people with disability and their carers (in relation to health, employment, education, income, and life satisfaction outcomes).

  • It can lessen longer-term care and support costs for people with disabilities. It may prevent people who have modest disability care and support needs from needing more costly levels of care and support.
